Far Far Away Game

If your child is all about movement at the moment, this activity may be ideal for them.

We used the interchangeable lids and shapes from A’s Imbucare box, but you can use any object-to-picture matching materials you have.

You will need two mats to delineate working areas. Set them apart as far as you want.

Place the objects on one mat and the matching pictures on the other. Ask the child to match the objects to the picture.

As an extension of object-to-picture matching, this activity helps improve matching skills, develop gross motor skills and build long-term memory.

My daughter loved this activity so much she would do it multiple times a day and would giggle the entire time!

Opportunities for extended learning and movement:

  • Why not extend the activity to different rooms in your home? For example, the objects can be set in the living room while the matching cards could be in the bedroom. It will be more challenging as walking longer distances will stimulate short-term memory on a different level.
  • Get involved: when doing this activity with your child, ask them to bring a specific item. This will not only make the challenge more engaging but will also improve their language development.
