Finding Myself After Motherhood
Five years ago I met my daughter for the first time and my whole world changed. Like so many mothers I lost myself in motherhood and felt my entire sense of self collapse. In the midst of the ruble I found a new passion.
I went from traveling the world extensively as a Research Analyst and Writer to delving deep into the world of parenting and child development. I’ve spent the past 5 years educating myself on early childhood development, Montessori, Positive Discipline, gentle and conscious parenting, among other things.
I became a certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator by the Positive Discipline Association and have formal training in Montessori at Home by the Prepared Montessorian Institute. I also worked as a guide in a Montessori classroom where I got to experience and observe first hand the power of the Montessori approach.
I wanted to learn how I could be the best parent I was capable of being. To show up as my best self to what was now my most important job – being a parent to this soul I was entrusted with.
And though all this learning gave me the knowledge necessary to be able to understand and know what to do, nothing can really prepare you for the work being a conscious parent requires of you. It is not something that can be easily intellectualized. Which is why I decided to offer guidance, support and a source of accountability to other parents.
Working through the inevitable triggers of unhealed trauma, while exhausted and oftentimes sleep deprived, navigating the physical and inner changes brought about by motherhood, doing the deep inner work and self-reflection it takes to break generational cycles, to re-connect with your inner child. This was the real work of re-parenting myself as I attempted to parent another being. But that’s the power of a parent’s love. A love so great it makes you want to be a better human.
Parenting is the HARDEST thing I’ve ever had to do. In many cases, there is no village and we find ourselves alone trying to navigate the chaos feeling like we can’t keep up. But it CAN be easier.
On a Mission to Make Positive Parenting Mainstream
I’ve seen first-hand the way that a Montessori-style prepared environment at home and a positive approach to discipline can transform the child’s relationship with their environment and the parent-child dynamic for the better. And this foundation can actually free you up a little more to do the inner transformational work with more ease. To work towards the mindset shift needed to parent consciously.
I also know how daunting it can be at first. That is why I created WonderHouse of Littles. To help you bring these changes into your home and your relationship with your child(ren), so you can set up a strong foundation – a peaceful home – with kind, confident little humans, capable of reaching their full potential. I love to educate other parents on the benefits of Montessori and Positive Discipline and the role of healing ourselves (through inner child work) so we can become more conscious parents.
