My daughter has been fascinated by squirrels lately so I decided to put together this simple activity so we could learn about the squirrel’s anatomy.

Since art activities are her favorite at the moment, I paired it with a printable of a squirrel that she could color first and then use some dried leaves she had collected over the weekend to create a tail. That turned out to be her favorite part!
Using a paintbrush for applying the glue provides an opportunity for young children to refine fine motor skills and the pincer grasp in preparation for writing, so I offer it in this way most often.
We also used our 10-frame and wooden acorns to practice counting. After she was done she decided she wanted to trace the squirrel on the window so I helped her set up. I love when she chooses an extension to an activity based on her own interests ♡.
