Fill in the numbers

If you have any type of wooden board (numbers, letters or other shapes) you need to try this idea! It’s so easy to set up and equally as fun!

Provide small amounts of different sensory bases so the child can explore and mix them all together if they wish.

I modeled the activity by filling the first three numbers and invited my daughter to continue. She immediately sat down at the table and started doing it.

I love activities like this one that make us both slow down. She was focused, enjoying some sensory stimulation, working on fine motor skills, visual memory, numeracy and so much more… And I get to sit quietly and watch her.

Eventually she decided she wanted to dump a whole container on the board so if you try this be sure to give your little one just as much rice (or whichever base you go with) as you’re willing to mix.

Cleaning up is part of the learning process, so make sure to encourage your child to tidy up after they finish playing. Model how to do it until your child feels confident enough to initiate the tidying up process independently.
