Seashell Cloud Dough Sensory Tray

Cloud dough is such a fun texture to manipulate and it’s super easy to make.

You need only two ingredients:

  • flour
  • oil (I used olive oil because that’s what I had at home, but you can use any oil).

Mix the oil in slowly until you get to the desired consistency. The more oil you add the more ‘dough-y’ it becomes. It should still feel dry but a little “crumbly”.

For this activity I added seashells because it was summer time and my daughter loves them, but you can adapt it to any theme your child is interested in at the moment.

A enjoyed examining the texture of the different shells and then scooping and pouring them into a container.

Cleaning up is part of the learning process, so make sure to encourage your child to tidy up after they finish playing. Model how to do it until your child feels confident enough to initiate the tidying up process independently.

  • How about taking this sensory play outside (weather permits)? Or, even better, play and explore seashells at the beach?
  • At home, adding real sand to this sensory play can make it feel more seaside-like, children love it!
