Counting with Seashells

I love to use seasonal items for our home activities so when summer comes around I always have seashells out for different activities.

This activity is so easy to set up. All you need is seashells and numbers. If you don’t have wooden number discs, you can also use sandpaper numbers or simply printed numbers.

My daughter was 29 months at the time of this activity. We were working on 1:1 correspondence and recognition of number symbols.

This activity provided some counting practice with the added sensory aspect of using seashells. She also loves to use her magnifying glass to explore the different shells.

Cleaning up is part of the learning process, so make sure to encourage your child to tidy up after they finish playing. Model how to do it until your child feels confident enough to initiate the tidying up process independently.
